In the rainy season of south Florida the swamps are full of standing water. In the drier winter the water subsides leaving the ground exposed. No standing water but the ground is still wet. This coupled with the canopy of leaves makes it a perfect place for moss to grow. Here the moss has covered roots and sticks that criss cross across the ground making for an almost surreal Indiana Jones type movie set. This photo was taken in the Myakka state park near Sarasota Florida.
